Producer Talk

We have been hard at work refining the various aspects of the concepts and mechanics of the game. After the pitch we had some good feedback and we aimed to iron out some details regarding the adventure, combat, art, and resource collection as we approached the prototype.

The Prototype Blueprint

The goal of our initial prototype is to capture the essence of "Kingdom" in a bite-sized piece that can be rapidly developed and tested. This means focusing on a horizontal slice where core gameplay elements are highlighted:

  • Player Experience: You'll navigate a simple scene, embodying our protagonist and get a feel for what the player can do and how they interact with the world around them.
  • Combat and Challenges: Face off against a unique enemy type, using basic combat mechanics. This encounter will help us refine the fluidity and responsiveness of our combat system.
  • Resource Gathering: Collect essential materials like wood or stone, which are fundamental for survival and crafting within the game.

Engineering the Mechanics

Our Engineer is focused on bringing the world of "Kingdom" to life with several key functionalities:

  • Smooth and Intuitive Movement: Ensuring player movement feels natural and responsive.
  • Resource Mechanics: Implementing a simple system for collecting and utilizing resources.
  • Combat Dynamics: We have been developing both the player and enemy combat mechanics. How you fight will evolve as we continue to develop the game's art and mechanics.

Artistic Direction

Creating a visually captivating world is crucial. Here’s what we’re focusing on for the prototype:

  • Visuals of the Kingdom: Even in its early stages, the Kingdom will hint at the mysteries and stories embedded in its landscape.
  • Enemy Design: Our first enemy sprite will be more than just an adversary; it's a glimpse into the eerie inhabitants of this unknown world.
  • Resource Representation: Simple yet recognizable sprites for natural resources will be developed, adding to the game’s realism and depth.

Narrative and Progression

  • Intriguing Storyline: Notes from the King and the crafting recipes you'll discover are more than gameplay elements; they are pieces of the narrative puzzle that will gradually reveal the history and secrets of the Kingdom.
  • Rewards and Consequences: Surviving raids and returning to your base will have tangible rewards, possibly including new NPCs or upgrades. Conversely, failing to protect your kingdom or manage resources could lead to dire consequences.
